Abstract
A new species of Upogebia (Crustacea, Decapoda, Thalassinidea, Upogebiidae) from Senegal. Six upogebiid specimens, all from Senegal and previously assigned to Upogebia nitida, are described here as the types of a new species, Upogebia senegalensis n. sp. This new taxon is similar to both U. nitida and U. mediterranea, with which it is compared. U. senegalensis n. sp. differs from U. nitida by the elongated triangular shape of its rostrum as well as the spinulation of its pereiopod 1, with a dorsal subdistal spine or tooth on the merus and propodus. It can be differentiated from U. mediterranea by its unarmed pereiopod 2 and by its telson, which is slightly broader than long. An identification key to Senegalese species of Upogebia is presented.
