Abstract
Thalassina anomala (Herbst, 1804), a thalassinid decapod, is described from the early Middle Miocene Bihoku Group exposed at Munekane, Yuki-cho, Jinseki-gun, Hiroshima Prefecture, Southwest Japan.Thalassina anomala is a living species which inhabits mangrove swamps and this occurrence shows the existence of mangrove swampy paleoenvironment in the Middle Miocene. It is closely related to the tropical spike recognized in the early Middle Miocene of Southwest Japan.
