Abstract |
A new genus and species of pontoniine shrimp, Patonia mclaughlinae n. gen., n. sp., is described and illustrated based on a single ovigerous female collected at depths of 209 to 280 m, during a recent deep-sea expedition off Taiwan. This new genus differs from other Pontoniinae genera in a combination of characters: hepatic spine bearing a complete basal suture and possibly mobile, body laterally compressed, rostrum distinctly dentate along entire dorsal margin and unarmed ventrally, basal antennular segment tridentate distolaterally, and second pereiopod very slender with carpus much longer than chela. |
